http://www.examiner.com/figure-skating- ... free-skateQUAD COUNT: 6 attempted, 2 clean (Van Der Perren, Chan)
1st time in history 4 different quads were attempted in one competition - what a competition!
Javier Fernandez ESP - quad toe (hand down, almost a face plant), quad sal (!!!), triple axel (leaning back, fall), triple axel-triple toe, triple lutz-triple toe (just hangs on), triple salchow (huge lean but one foot), triple flip-double toe (turn out), double loop - exciting program, loaded with technical elements, but he's also a superb skater - this is going to be his breakout year
Daisuke Takahashi JPN - quad flip (downgrade, two-foot), triple axel (just hangs on), triple salchow (hand down), triple axel (underrotated? two-foot, flip out), triple flip-triple toe, triple loop, triple lutz-double toe, steps into triple flip - not bad at all, but won't catch Chan on that one - TES 69.37, PCS 83.84, FS TOTAL 153.21, FINAL TOTAL 237.87
Patrick Chan CAN - Aranjuez - quad toe (fall), quad toe-triple toe (!!!), triple axel (nice!), love that flying combo spin in the middle, steps into triple lutz (trips in the middle of the steps, step out), triple loop, triple flip (hangs on), triple lutz-double toe, double axel - what a strange string of events in his free skate, didn't fall apart at all though, which is super - TES 84.82, PCS 87.64, FALL -2.00, FS TOTAL 170.46, FINAL TOTAL 253.74
Adam Rippon USA - quad lutz (downgrade, two-foot), triple axel (fall out), triple loop, triple axel (underrotated? fall), speed into triple flip-triple toe, triple lutz-half loop-triple sal, triple Rippon lutz, double axel - iffy in the middle there but really strong ending to an uneven-ish skate (To clarify, Rippon's 4lutz bailed out around 3 1/2 revs, so he two-foots it and steps out - prob didn't feel enough snap) - TES 74.96, PCS 71.12, FALL -1.00, FS TOTAL 145.08, FINAL TOTAL 217.97
Denis Ten KAZ - Adios Nonino - quad toe (hand down, clean, nice attempt though), triple axel (beauty), triple lutz-triple toe, double axel-double toe-double toe, triple flip (just hangs on), double lutz, triple loop (hand down, foot down), triple salchow - well-skated, maybe it's a turning point for Ten - he's such a talent - TES 72.13, PCS 69.86, FALL -1.00, FS TOTAL 140.99, FINAL TOTAL 212.39

Alexander Majorov SWE - Bolero w/a little mesh - triple axel-double toe (scratchy on the landing of the axel), single lutz, triple axel (turn out), triple flip-triple toe (just hangs on), triple flip-double toe (messy landing), triple loop (fall out), triple salchow (hangs on), double axel - oy, that last part was just jump setup after jump setup - TES 57.80, PCS 54.90, FS TOTAL 112.70, FINAL TOTAL 177.84
Kevin Van Der Perren BEL - Man in the Iron Mask - quad toe, single axel (step out), triple lutz, did that step sequence really have anything to do with the music at all?, double salchow-triple toe-triple toe, double flip-double toe (hands over the head on the toe), triple flip, double loop, triple salchow - none of the magic from last week's Skate America, just looked worn out by the time the first step sequence was over - TES 58.78, PCS 56.42, FS TOTAL 115.20, FINAL TOTAL 179.21
Ross Miner USA - The Untouchables - triple axel (nice ride out edge), triple axel-double toe (hand down on the axel), triple lutz-double toe, spread eagle into triple salchow-double toe-double toe, triple lutz, triple loop, double axel, steps into triple flip - very good skate for Miner, well done - TES 75.67, PCS 65.86, FS TOTAL 141.53, FINAL TOTAL 202.36
